Thigh Lift in Boca Raton, FL

For many women, it seems that excess fat always finds its way to their thighs. A significant weight loss comes with a major loss of fat in the thighs and loose skin that sags or even hangs. A thigh lift removes the excess skin, leaving thinner, shapely legs. Daniel Man, M.D., a Florida board-certified plastic surgeon, performs thigh lifts on individuals living in and around Boca Raton, FL, who have excess skin from losing a large amount of weight and want toned, fit legs.

What is a Thigh Lift?

One of the biggest issues with people who have lost a significant amount of weight is that they often end up with excess skin that sags, especially in the thigh area. A thigh lift is a surgical procedure that removes the excess skin and fat from the thigh, resulting in smoother, more contoured legs.

Benefits* of a Thigh Lift

A thigh lift has become a more requested procedure, especially for people who have experienced a significant weight loss. The procedure offers the following benefits:

  • Leaner, smoother legs
  • Additional weight loss from excess skin removal
  • Much less risk of chafing between the inner thigh area
  • More clothing options
  • Participation in more physical activities

Is a Thigh Lift Right for Me?

If you have lost a significant amount of weight but are not able to showcase your efforts because of excess skin in the thighs, a thigh lift may be right for you. It is important to understand that there are other surgical and non-surgical options for those who want spot removal of fat, as thigh lifts are designed for larger amounts of excess skin and fat.

How is a Thigh Lift Performed?

Before the procedure, Dr. Man evaluates the thighs to make sure a patient is fit for the procedure. He makes sure there are no infections or fluctuations in weight between the consultation and the day of surgery. At that point, he marks the targeted area of the thighs to have a guide for incisions.

Once the procedure begins, the incisions are made in the inner thigh area for the liposuction to remove pockets of fat. At that point, the skin is pulled tighter so that the thighs have a shapelier appearance. The excess skin is removed and the incision is sutured and bandaged. There are also drains placed in the incisions to prevent the accumulation of fluids and infection.

During the procedure, patients receive local anesthesia with intravenous sedation or general anesthesia. The surgeon, nurses, and anesthesiologists monitor the patient’s vital signs throughout the entire procedure to ensure safety.

Preparing for a Thigh Lift

Most of the preparation prior to the actual surgery involves getting the body ready for the procedure. Dr. Man goes over a list of detailed instructions with each patient, which include:

  • Have a complete physical
  • Lose weight, if necessary
  • Stop smoking at least six weeks before surgery
  • Stop taking Aspirin or other NSAIDs that can cause bleeding at least one week prior to surgery
  • Stay hydrated
  • Arrange for childcare assistance for the two weeks following your surgery, especially with small children
  • Establish a support system for two weeks

After Thigh Lift Surgery

Immediately following a thigh lift procedure, patients are taken to a recovery area where they can rest until they come out of anesthesia. Their legs are already bandaged and covered by a compression garment to keep the skin and muscles intact during the initial few days of healing. Patients are prevented from sitting, as that can pull the incisions. Their caregivers are provided with detailed instructions on how to take care of the incisions, including changing the bandages and drains as well as helping the patients get around during the first few days.

Recovery Following a Thigh Lift

The recovery from a thigh lift is gradual and varies with each patient. For the most part, the first week or two is the hardest, as this is when it is imperative to be very careful about the incisions. There should be someone to help the patient for the first week. Showering is allowed two to three days following the procedure. Although walking is important for blood flow, it is important to avoid sitting as that may stretch or pull the stitches and incisions.

The stitches are typically removed along with the drains after a week. At that point, no more assistance is needed except for helping with childcare if necessary. After two to three weeks, patients may return to work, but must avoid anything strenuous. Light exercise may begin; however, the compression garment must still be worn at this point to keep everything in place during the healing process.

At one month, patients no longer must wear a compression garment and regular exercise regimens may be resumed after about two months post-surgery. Within six to 12 months, the full results of the thigh lift are visible.

It is important to maintain a healthy lifestyle with exercise. Even though the results may be long-lasting, new fat can settle there with a sedentary lifestyle.

How Much Does a Thigh Lift Cost?

The cost of a thigh lift depends on the extent of the work to be done as well as if any other procedures are combined. During a consultation, we can discuss the cost as well as our payment options, including financing. We accept cash, personal checks, and credit cards as payment for all procedures.
