No matter your efforts to be healthy and have a great figure, you may still have that small dreaded belly of tummy. Individuals living in and around Boca Raton, FL, can get rid of that belly once and for all with a mini tummy tuck from Daniel Man, M.D., giving them the flat, smooth abdomen they’ve always wanted.

What is a Mini Tummy Tuck?

A mini tummy tuck (partial abdominoplasty) is a surgical procedure done to remove excess fat from the lower abdomen, leaving the abdomen flatter and in good shape. It is often the choice for women who have had kids, who are aging or are in decent shape but can’t get rid of that small pooch.

The Benefits of a Mini Tummy Tuck

Unlike a full tummy tuck, a mini-tummy tuck targets the lower abdomen and removes fat from the belly. It provides patients with the following benefits:

  • Less recovery time than a full tummy tuck
  • Targets the lower abdomen
  • Creates a more even and smoother appearance
  • Does not reposition the belly button

Is a Mini Tummy Tuck Right for Me?

If you are in good shape but still have a small pooch with a very limited amount of skin that needs to be removed from the lower abdomen, a mini tummy tuck may be right for you. A mini tummy tuck is often selected as part of a mommy makeover and performed in conjunction with liposuction. It is not recommended for patients with loose skin across their entire abdomen.

How is a Mini Tummy Tuck Performed?

Often performed with liposuction, a mini tummy tuck removes small amounts of excess fat and skin in the area below the belly button. At the same time, abdominal muscles are tightened. To ensure the procedure is done in the right area, the surgeon marks the exact area where the incisions should be made and where the liposuction is going to take place.

The main differences between a mini tummy tuck and a full procedure are the amount of skin removed, the extent of the area where the procedure takes place, and the belly button position. With a full tummy tuck, the upper and lower abdomen are involved. Additionally, the belly button is left intact in its current location during a mini tummy tuck.

Both procedures do leave a scar, although it fades to a very thin line if it is cared for as followed in the directions. With a mini tummy tuck, the scar is only below the belly and often under the bathing suit or panty line.

Preparing for a Mini Tummy Tuck

Prior to the actual surgery, patients are given pre-op medications to be comfortable. The anesthesiologist normally administers general anesthesia so patients are asleep and do not experience any sensation during the procedure (local anesthetics and / or IV sedation may also be used).

During a consultation, Dr. Man provides patients with detailed instructions on how to prepare for surgery. These instructions may include (but may not be limited to):

  • Having a complete physical
  • Lose weight, if necessary
  • Stop smoking at least six weeks before surgery
  • Stop taking Aspirin or other NSAIDs that can cause bleeding at least one week prior to surgery
  • Stay hydrated
  • Arrange for childcare assistance for the two weeks following your surgery, especially with small children
  • Establish a support system for two weeks

Recovery after a Mini Tummy Tuck

The mini tummy tuck procedure is performed as an outpatient surgery. The follow-up is different for each patient. Patients are fitted with support garments to help speed up healing and advised to avoid any strenuous activity for several weeks. Just as with the pre-op instructions, patients are also given aftercare instructions during a consultation. The results begin to be visible within a few weeks, most noticeably a firmer, flatter abdomen. The entire healing process may take a few months.

It is important to understand that even though a mini tummy tuck can give you great results, new accumulations of fat can settle in the same area. To avoid this, a healthy lifestyle is necessary and should include a consistent exercise and nutrition plan.

How Much Does a Mini Tummy Tuck Cost?

The cost of a mini tummy tuck varies with each patient depending on the individual treatment plan. During a consultation, we go over the total cost and our payment options, including cash, personal check, and credit cards along with financing.
