What is Labiaplasty?

The labiaplasty procedure can be performed on the labia minora (inner lips) or the labia majora (outer lips). Labiaplasty provides the desired results for women who are unhappy with the size, shape, or color of their labia. The size and shape of the labia can vary significantly due to genetics, childbirth, and aging. The goal of labiaplasty is to reshape and transform the appearance of the labia to achieve a more aesthetic appearance and/or to relieve pain and discomfort. Many women with large labia minora will also present with excess skin of the clitoral hood. In order to achieve a balanced and aesthetic appearance, a hoodoplasty is necessary in many instances.

Benefits of Labiaplasty

  • Labia minoraplasty: This procedure is performed to remove excess skin or achieve symmetry of uneven labia minora. Large or “floppy” labia may cause embarrassment, discomfort during sexual intercourse, and chronic irritation or inability to wear certain garments, such as thongs, swimwear, or exercise pants. Several surgical techniques are available to achieve the best results. Each procedure is individually tailored to fit the woman’s unique anatomy and personal preference. An extensive consultation is conducted prior to the surgery to determine the desired outcome.
  • Labia majoraplasty: This procedure is recommended for instances when the skin of the labia majora has become very loose, wrinkled, and droopy because of childbirth, aging, or major weight loss. Surgical procedures on the labia majora are designed to remove the excess skin and augment the appearance of the labia to achieve a more youthful look. The excess skin is removed and the labia are reshaped. Further augmentation and reshaping can be achieved with autologous fat transfer (using your own fat) into the labia.
  • Hoodoplasty: Clitoral hood reduction is performed to remove excess skin along the sides or top of the clitoris. In some women, the clitoral hood (prepuce) can be completely or partially adhered to the clitoris, hiding it under the skin. This may interfere with normal sensation or even cause pain before or during intercourse. Hoodoplasty is designed to correct this abnormality and restore the appearance of the clitoral hood. This procedure, as well as the labiaplasty, is performed in our operating room under local anesthesia and followed by a fast recovery.

Is Labiaplasty right for me?

Labiaplasty may be the right procedure if you are unhappy or embarrassed with the way your labia look, feel, or interfere with your life. Additionally, if you experience any vaginal irritation or are limited in participating in certain sports or wearing certain garments, you may want to consider labiaplasty surgery.

How involved is Labiaplasty?

During a labia reduction procedure, the excess skin is trimmed and the labia are reshaped. The newly shaped labia are stitched with fine absorbable suture. The outpatient procedure takes approximately one hour under local anesthesia with some mild sedation. The recovery period is short with minimal discomfort. Sexual activity can be resumed in six weeks.

How much does Labiaplasty cost?

The cost of labiaplasty depends on the extent of the procedure and whether a Hoodoplasty or additional procedures are performed at the same time. During the consultation with Dr. Livnat, he will review the costs as well as our payment options and financing.
