Lasers have become one of the plastic surgeon's most exciting weapons in the fight against wrinkles and sun damaged skin. Laser skin resurfacing using the CO2 and Erbium laser can offer many advantages. By combing the two lasers the surgeon has a very delicate and precise instrument for removing wrinkles and sun damaged skin one layer at a time to remove lines and wrinkles, sun damage, brown spots and a rough or "over tanned" look. Lasers work by vaporizing the water in the top layers of skin thus causing a constriction of the tissues. The surgeon regulates the amount of laser energy precisely controlling the removal of each layer. New cells form and collagen increases as the tissues heal, revealing a smoother, tighter, younger-looking skin. Combining the CO2 and Erbium lasers together allows the surgeon to target specific layers of skin such as the top layer for fine lines, and deeper layer for sun damage, deep wrinkles, crow's feet and lip lines. The Erbium laser works on tissues with minimal heat damage and can often be performed with little or no anesthesia After laser treatment the skin will appear red like a deep sunburn. The redness will last for 7-10 days, or up to several months depending on your skin type and healing. The skin will continue to improve as new cells, collagen and elastin increases. The procedure is ideal for men and women alike and is good for fair and olive skins. Darker skins should be discussed with the surgeon. A private consultation is the best way to evaluate your skin characteristics to decide if laser resurfacing is right for you, or if other skin rejuvenation procedures such as chemical peeling would be best. Risks include redness, hyper pigmentation, infection, scarring and burns. After laser treatment, patients are able to go out in the sun and resume regular activities in about 7-10 days. Sun screens are recommended. Dr. Man's office is located directly across from Boca Raton Community Hospital at 851 Meadows Road, Suite 222, Boca Raton, Florida 33486, phone number 1-800-232-5508. |
