Injectable fillers such as collagen, gortex, and autologous fat have
ushered in a new age of facial contouring techniques. Autologous fat,
which is fat harvested from the patient's own body, offers a unique advantage
over other materials and has helped to further advance the pracitice of
liposculpture. New advances in harvesting, storing and injection of autologous
fat have made it a very desirable option in facial restoration and anti-aging.
Autologous fat is especially good as an injectible filler for facial
liposculpture and enhancement.
During the liposculpture procedure, fat is harvested from the hip, stomach
other areas where it is not needed and reinjected into the cheeks, jawline,
lips, brows, and eyelids. Fat or other injectible fillers can also be
used to smooth out deep lines such as those around the mouth, and deep
creases of the nasalabial folds (smile lines).
The liposculpture procedure may need to be repeated in order to build
up volume and to compensate for fat that is absorbed by the body. Liposculpture
is very useful in correcting aging of the face and loss of volume in the
cheeks, brows, tear trough, nasalabial folds, lips and underneath the
jaw. Acne pits can also be minimized by this treatment. The results obtained
through the injection of autologous fat are long-lasting, though touchups
are often required.
