Procedure: Facelift Rhytidectomy

Purpose: The natural face lift is designed to tighten skin that has begun to sag and muscles of the face and to look natural.  The procedure also removes jowls and provides a more pleasing contour of the face, giving the face a more youthful appearance. This procedure can be combined with a neck, eye or forehead lift and laser surgery.

Surgery Length: 2-4 hours or more depending on the extent. Outpatient surgery, often with an overnight stay.

Anesthesia: General Anesthesia, I.V. Sedation.

Recovery: Patients experience postoperative tightness, swelling and bruising for several weeks. Numbness may last up to several months.

Back to work: 1-2 weeks.

Avoid strenuous activities: 2-3 weeks.

Makeup: 1-2 weeks

Risks: Poor healing, infections, scarring, bleeding, bruising, nerve sensation.

“The Natural Facelift”

How does it work? A facelift, also known as a Rhytidectomy, can improve the most visible signs of aging by the removal of excess fat, the tightening of underlying muscles, and the redraping of the skin of your face and neck.

Why a facelift? The face is one of the first areas we notice visible signs of aging. Both gravity and diminished volume result in the facial features of aging. Generally a patient becomes interested in a facelift when the youthfulness and energy level is not reflected in there facial features. They are looking for ways to refresh and rejuvenate their appearance. There are many variation of the facelift that are designed to smooth out the skin in the face and neck due the fact that deep creases form between the nose and mouth; the jawline grows slack and jowly; folds and fat deposits appear around the neck. A facelift helps to reverse these aging signs by removing excess fat, tightening underlying muscles, and removing excess skin from the face and neck. It is often done in conjunction with other procedures such as a forehead lift, necklift, eye lift, nose reshaping and laser surgery.
