 The threads are made from  a clear “polypropylene” non absorbable suture material. Inserted through a tiny needle under the skin, the threads contain tiny barbs or hooks that attach to facial tissue under the skin and pull the skin upwards.  Once inserted, they form a “suspension” support structure to lift and fix the skin in place. This lifting action reduces sagging skin to give a more youthful look.

 According to Dr. Man, the procedure fills a much needed void for patients, especially men, who may not want a surgical facelift, but desire a more youthful appearance. It also provides an option for women on medications who may not be candidates for facelift surgery, and those who have recently undergone other surgery such as knee or hip replacement.

 The threads are not visible and cannot be felt under the skin.  The procedure is minimally invasive and does not require anesthesia, only local anesthetic, and can be performed in under an hour. The results are immediate and recovery is minimal.

 The concept of suspension threads was developed in Russia several years ago and soon made its way to the U.S.  Contour Threads is the only FDA approved “suspension” thread.
